These Terms & Conditions govern your use of the HalalScanner mobile app. They apply to the HalalScanner app specifically — for the rules governing use of this website itself, see our website Terms of Service.
Acceptance of Terms
By creating an account and using HalalScanner, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
Religious Guidance Disclaimer
HalalScanner is a tool to assist you in making informed decisions — it is not a religious authority, and it does not provide religious rulings (fatwa). Halal verdicts shown in the app are informational and based on available product data; they are not a certification, endorsement, or ruling from any halal certification body or religious institution. HalalScanner does not replace guidance from a qualified religious authority. When a matter is important to you, please consult a scholar or recognised religious authority you trust.
Product Information Disclaimer
Product information shown in the app — including ingredient lists, certification status, and images — comes from manufacturer data, third-party product databases, ingredient text you provide, or AI-assisted analysis, and may be incomplete, outdated, or inaccurate. HalalScanner does not replace the manufacturer's own packaging or published ingredient information. Always verify ingredients and certification directly with the manufacturer or a recognised certifying authority when it matters most to you, particularly for products with a recipe or supplier that can change without notice.
AI and Automated Analysis
Some assessments in HalalScanner are produced or assisted by artificial intelligence and optical character recognition (OCR), including ingredient-photo scanning and food-photo analysis. AI-assisted results, and any confidence score shown alongside them, are estimates, not certainties, and OCR text extraction may misread a label. See our Disclaimer page (or, in the app, Settings → Disclaimer) for the full explanation of what this means for any specific result.
Your Account and Responsibilities
You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for all activity under your account. You must provide accurate information when creating an account. You must be at least 13 years old to use HalalScanner.
Acceptable Use
You agree not to: submit false or misleading product reports; attempt to access another user's account or data; reverse-engineer, decompile, or interfere with the app's normal operation; use the app for any unlawful purpose; or upload content you do not have the right to share.
Intellectual Property
HalalScanner's app, design, branding, and original content are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app for your own personal, non-commercial use, subject to these terms. Product data shown in the app may belong to the respective manufacturers, retailers, or third-party sources (including Open Food Facts) and remains their property. Content you submit (ingredient text, photos, reports) remains yours, but by submitting it you grant us a licence to use it to provide and improve the service, including sending it to third-party AI providers strictly for the purpose of generating your assessment.
Limitation of Liability
HalalScanner is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty that assessments will be accurate, complete, or fit for a particular purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or any loss arising from your reliance on a halal assessment, product information, or AI-assisted analysis shown in the app. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
Account Termination
You may delete your account at any time from Settings within the app — see our Privacy Policy and Account Deletion pages for exactly what this removes. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.
Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of Australia, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, unless a mandatory law of your own country of residence provides otherwise. Any dispute will be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction unless applicable law requires otherwise.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will require you to review and re-accept the updated terms the next time you open the app — see Settings for the version you last accepted.
